Heal the Wounds That Are Still Affecting Your Life

EMDR Therapy in Costa Mesa, CA

You replay the memory over and over, hoping that one day it won't hurt as much. But instead, your heart races, your body tenses, you're irritable, & scared.

EMDR Therapy helps your brain and body process what happened so you can finally feel calmer, more grounded, and at peace.  Healing is possible.

What is EMDR Therapy?

I call it "Exercise for the Brain". EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that supports mental wellness therapy by helping your brain heal from traumatic or painful experiences. Just as your body naturally heals a physical wound, your brain possesses the ability to heal emotional wounds. Sometimes, following a distressing experience, that healing process can become "stuck." EMDR intensives help your brain safely process those memories, ensuring they no longer trigger the same emotional pain, fear, or anxiety. As a result, you can feel calmer, more confident, and more in control of your life, facilitating your journey towards trauma recovery.

REASONS YOU COULD BENEFIT FROM EMDR THERAPY

  • Being alone feels scarier than staying in an unhealthy relationship.
  • You replay conversations at night, wondering what you should have said or done differently.
  • That old voice still follows you: “You’re not good enough.”
  • You say “yes” when you want to say “no” because disappointing others feels unbearable.
  • Your heart suddenly races. You can’t breathe. You’re convinced something is seriously wrong—but doctors tell you everything looks normal.
  • You’re emotionally exhausted from keeping everyone else happy.
  • A smell, song, place, or date can suddenly bring painful memories rushing back.
  • You avoid driving, crowds, appointments, or unfamiliar places because you’re afraid of feeling trapped or unable to escape.
  • You’re always on alert, waiting for something bad to happen—even when you’re safe.
  • You know your childhood or past relationships still affect you, but talking about what happened feels too painful.
  • You’ve spent years trying to push the memories away, but they keep finding their way back.
  • Part of you knows you need help, but another part thinks, “I don’t want to open that door again.”
  • You’ve become very good at surviving. Now you’re tired of living in survival mode.

How does EMDR work?

Think of EMDR as exercise for your brain. Just like your body naturally heals a cut, your brain is designed to heal from emotional wounds. Sometimes that healing process gets stuck after a traumatic or painful experience.

EMDR helps your brain safely process those memories so they no longer trigger the same fear, anxiety, or emotional pain. The memory stays, but the distress doesn't have to.

My Approach to Emdr

1. We'll get to know each other.

We'll start by discussing your story, the current struggles you're facing, and your goals for mental wellness therapy. Together, we'll determine if EMDR intensives are the right approach for your trauma recovery.

2. You'll learn ways to feel calm and safe.

Before we begin processing difficult memories during EMDR intensives, I'll teach you simple techniques to help you feel grounded, relaxed, and in control throughout your mental wellness therapy and trauma recovery journey.

3. We'll identify the memories that are still affecting you today.

We'll gently explore the experiences that continue to trigger anxiety, panic, low self-esteem, or unhealthy relationship patterns through EMDR intensives, which are a vital part of mental wellness therapy and trauma recovery.

4. We'll begin the EMDR process.

Through EMDR intensives, guided eye movements, or other forms of bilateral stimulation, your brain will start to process painful memories in a safe and structured environment. This approach supports trauma recovery while ensuring you remain awake, aware, and in control throughout the mental wellness therapy.

5. Your brain begins to heal.

As treatment progresses through EMDR intensives, the memories typically become less upsetting, negative beliefs lose their power, and both your mind and body start to feel calmer and more at peace, aiding in your trauma recovery and overall mental wellness therapy.

6. You'll move forward with greater confidence.

Our goal through EMDR intensives is not to erase your memories but to assist in trauma recovery, allowing them to stop controlling your life. This way, you can feel more present, confident, and free to enjoy your future with effective mental wellness therapy.
